The historic pawnshop building in the heart of Stuttgart is undergoing a comprehensive renovation to create new, modern office spaces that stylishly blend tradition and the future.
The Städtische Pfandleihe Stuttgart was founded in 1872 and is one of the oldest pawnshops in Germany.
The impressive building in Stuttgart-Mitte was constructed that same year according to plans by architect Hugo Beytenmiller in the Neoclassical style and was built specifically to serve as a pawnshop.
1922
The Stuttgart Municipal Pawnshop ceased operations as a result of inflation.
1927
Thanks to a partnership between the Städtische Girokasse and the city administration, “Pfandleihanstalt Stuttgart AG” was established.
1943
Operations were suspended during World War II and resumed three years later.
1950
The Stuttgart Pawnbroking Company, LLC, was founded with a majority stake held by Girokasse.
2019
The LBBW subsidiary was reorganized into Städtische Pfandleihe Stuttgart GmbH.

In collaboration with the architectural firm Tennigkeit+Fehrle, the building is being brought up to the latest technical standards: a passenger elevator, air conditioning, new restroom facilities, wiring, and a completely new roof—including insulation—form the basis of this extensive modernization project, which complies with historic preservation regulations.
In total, approximately 1,355 m² of high-quality, centrally located office space has been created.
